Art, For Monkees' Sake!

This page contains Monkee-related art, most of it out of my sketchbook, plus my chair and a pastel drawing of Mike.  While many of these drawings contain copyrighted material, everything else is mine.  I put a lot of hard work into these.  Please, please do not take any of these for site use without asking!  I don't mind if you want to print one off or something, but don't steal my work.

Monkees Art

I'd like to explain something about my drawings here.  Some of drawings are faceless.  There's a reason for this, I think.  I'm not very good at making faces resemble the person they belong to most of the time.  (This is just my opinion.  Apparently, I have a rather low opinion of my own talent and I have a hard time believing people when they tell me something is really good.)  The drawings resemble their subjects more when I don't put the faces in, in my opinion.  I'm also a little afraid that I'll screw up the whole drawing if I mess up the face, so I just leave it blank most of the time.  Or maybe it's some weird psychological thing.  Who knows?

The pics near the bottom are the better ones.  Practice makes perfect, you know.

My Monkees chair- I painted this old chair with a Monkees design.
Chair sketches- Design layouts for the chair, and Mike playing guitar
Mike- Two Mike sketches and the Monkees logo among some other drawings.
Micky- The writing is the words to Randy Scouse Git.  This is drawn in my PreCal notebook.  I can always learn the Law of Cosines some other time, right?
Mike, Micky, Davy, Peter- What started out as a couple of notes for this site turned into a drawing of Mike's hat, which turned into a drawing of all four.  (I think Davy and Peter look best in this drawing.)
Mike and Micky- Pencil sketches, one of first season Mike and one of Micky from the Wild Monkees (not very good, though).
Peter and Davy- Peter playing banjo and Davy from the Wild Monkees, plus a small sketch of Mike (hatless!) at the top.
Pastel Mike- This is my first (and probably last) time I've used pastels in years, and the best pastel drawing I've ever done.  They're a little too annoying to use often.
Pastel Mike sketch- The pencil drawing underneath the pastel drawing of Mike.  I think its better than the end result.
Randy Scouse Git Mike- There's a picture of Mike being silly during the Randy Scouse Git video, and I copied the pose.
Cowboy Davy and Head Micky- Davy in his costume from the Card Room scene in the Monkees Pilot and Micky in the Western scene from Head.  The "Love" is from a necklace I saw in a picture of Peter.
Micky and Sammy-  Micky and then-wife, Samantha.
60's and 80's Mike- Mike from the cover of "Hey, Hey, We're the Monkees" (hardcover book) and from the 80's reunion.
Good Mike- Gosharooney, I'm surprised at how good this one turned out, considering I almost overworked it to death, like a Davy I did today.  (10/26/00)
Obsessed Teen Magazine Cover- Computer art, unlike the rest of the stuff here.  I did a cover for a fake teen magazine, parodying many of the Tiger Beats and such from the sixties.  (As seen in my Monkees Memorabilia Price Guide.)
Mike Laying on his stomach- Like on that Greatest hits cover, you know, where he's resting his chin on his hands. (Fixed)
Mike and Maggie St. Matthew- A neat little Mike and Maggie St. Matthew, would-be star of my semi serious fic "Look Out", which I ended up giving up on.  Go fig.
Mike playing guitar- Uh, not much to say about this one.
Profile- Umm, drawn off a screen shot of Mike driving the Monkeemobile from Monkees on Tour.  I think it's kind of spiffy.
Really big Davy- Yeah.  Big ol' shot of Davy's head.  Traa-laaa.
Little slouchy Mike- From a poster in my memorabilia book.
Me and My Micky- My Micky painting, that is.  Yeah.
Fireman Mike and a cute li'l puppy- Do I really need to explain EVERY single one?  Wait.... Um, yeah, ignore me.
Fireman Mike, a closer look- Detail of the face region.  Every artist (or at least, every artist I know) doesn't think much of their own work, but I really don't think this resembles Mike much in the face.  Ditto for the Mick painting.
TV Parts Nez- Mike from a promo shot for TV Parts, I think.  Possibly Elephant Parts.  Both this promo and Fireman Mike's original photo (i.e. the thing I copied) can be found in the Gallery.  I ***LOVE*** this drawing.  I'm really proud of it.
Peter in profile- This is from a picture from some concert.  I think it was a '67 concert, and not HEAD like I originally thought.  I think it was the sweater that made me think that it was from HEAD.
Smiling Peter Tork- There is something wrong with this one...  I think maybe the face is a little too flat, the eyes a little too narrow.  I'm practicing Pete and going through my other Peter drawings in the vague hope to give him copies of these when I go to the SSB concert on August 10th, 2001.
Yet another picture of Peter- Yep.  That's right.  Peter is pretty hard to draw, actually.  *erase, erase, erase*  It's the eyes that give me trouble.
Sunset Micky- A picture of Micky.  I think I might have gotten the eyes a little closer to right this time.

Variations on a Theme: Thunder Rumbling

Um, yeah, so I've done a whole bunch of drawings based on the first two lines of Michael Nesmith's Thanx For The Ride.
"Thunder rumbling, twice the size / Echoes distant to my goodbyes"
Thunder Rumbling Tile- A raku tile.  Didn't turn out as nicely as I would have hoped.  I wanted it to be all rainbowy, but the reduction process didn't go quite right.
